How to write a tech pack a factory can actually cost
A tech pack tells the factory exactly what to make. It needs a flat sketch, a measurement chart with tolerances, the fabric and trims (bill of materials), colours, artwork and label placement, and packing instructions. Missing measurements and vague fabric descriptions are the most common reasons a sample comes back wrong.
What goes in it
- Front and back flat sketch
- Measurement chart for every size, with tolerances
- Bill of materials: fabric, weight, composition, trims
- Colours with Pantone or lab-dip references
- Artwork, logo size and placement
- Label copy: brand, size, composition, care, origin
- Packing: folding, polybag, carton
Common mistakes
- No tolerances on measurements
- Fabric described as 'soft cotton' instead of weight and composition
- No placement measurements for logos
- Care and origin text missing from the label
